In this post, we will look at the Arc’teryx Alpha SV hardshell jacket. If You’re looking for the ultimate “Suit Of Armor” hardshell, Check out the Arc’teryx Alpha SV. This jacket is designed for climbing and the harshest conditions that you can throw at it. It is made out of a 100d, 3L GoreTex Pro Most durable Material, and it has all the features of a pro shell. This jacket is not cheap, but it is a beast of a hardshell.
The Alpha SV jacket is loaded with features too. Two high chest pockets, a small pocket on the left sleeve, as well as a dump pocket and a zippered pocket on the inside. It has a Recco Reflector, adjustable bottom hem, Velcro cuff adjustments, and a large multi-adjustable helmet compatible storm hood.
The jacket overall fits a bit large, as it is designed to fit over multiple or heavier layers, and still provide enough room for mobility and not be restrictive. I typically will wear this shell over the Arc’teryx Thorium or an older model of the Cerium SV without any problems at all. It’s regular fit as opposed to a trim fit, gives you that extra room inside. If you intend to wear this jacket over lighter layers, you may actually want to size down.
While the Arc’teryx Alpha SV jacket is designed mostly for climbing, it can be used for just about anything. However, you may find that for more everyday use, the Beta series would be better. I feel that the two chest pockets in the front are great if climbing, but not as easy to use as the normal side pockets on the Beta’s. Just something to think about…

Overall, you will pay a premium for the Arc’teryx Alpha SV hardshell, but be confident that it doesn’t get much better than this. It is one of the most durable, breathable, and weather proof jackets available. You will feel proud to wear this beast, knowing you’ve got the best!
